Ray’s chat 30

Hi Folks
It’s RAYS CHAT THIRTY

Well Hi Folks
Here we are last month of the year: And Oh So many things you still got to do before we get to 2018.
So maybe NOT much time to listen to Folk Music.
But let me try and find you some nice Gentle Music to bring you a bit of Peace in these busy days.
Listen to this.. A nice Cheerful Song: About that November rain now History:

Well YES, Maybe more Country than Folk but listen anyway:
Put in STEVE ‘N’ SEAGULLS – NOVEMBER RAIN 5.07
Bit Different!! Well I liked it.
YES: Goodbye November Rain.
And let’s see what December has in store for us??? Probably Early morning rain. and I guess there will be a lot of Early Morning Rain in the Months to come..
And: YES; there is a song about Early Morning Rain. This is a Great Song by the Canadian Folk Singer Gordon Lightfoot. And it’s a good one:
It was recorded by lots of the TOP people.
Like The Kingston Trio, Eva Cassidy, John Denver (YES He did it),
Ian and Sylvia: YES So many Top guys were singing it.
It truly was a GREAT Hit.
It was about The New Jet Planes that were starting to take over the World of Travel. NEW Modern Folk Songs were becoming about NOW..TODAY. Not Old History stuff.

YES Let’s Hear Gordon Himself Sing his own song Put in:
GORDON LIGHTFOOT – EARLY MORING RAIN 3.37
A really good Folk Song; That was picked-up by lots of famous people.
Not only Folk People; it went Main stream. It was recorded by the famous Group Peter. Paul and Mary.
It was their version that really hit the Jackpot:
SO Yes Lets listen to:
PETER,PAUL AND MARY IN THE EARLY MORNING RAIN 2.55 Yes: that really was a BIG hit
And so many guys sang it in the Clubs.

And YES the song even went Main Stream: Elvis Presley loved the song; and he recorded it quite a few times.
There are lots of choices there if you want to listen.

Yes Great Song: Shame we don’t hear it any more!!
Wish some of the new boys would Revive it??
Wouldn’t it be real great if some young guys did a REVIVIVAL group?? And sang all these great Oldies.
I reckon it would go Great!!

But thinking about RAIN; Probably the Biggest Hit EVER SONG about Rain was not maybe a Folk Song??..
But still a superb Song and Superbly Sung.
So Go on Let’s listen; Put in:
BROOK BENTON – RAINY NIGHT IN GEORGIA 3.54
Oh!! You Got to agree that is a Super Song Superbly sung.

And another Song about Rainy Days you certainly will know?
YES: Put in
CARPENTERS – RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS 3.31
Over 16 million had viewed this when I looked.
Yes a VERY famous Song by a Great duo.

BUT: Lets talk about better days; Hopefully we might get some sun in December. So lets hear about SUN. Put in:
John Denver – Sunshine on My Shoulders 5.20. Oh I know you can say John Denver was more Country than Folk. But What a Great Great Song.
And our own Simeon Sings it Superbly; and his guitar playing is just Magic!! You are VERY lucky if you get to hear him sing this song.

Yes: Here we are in December; and the Winter Months, There will be Chilly days and A Folk Group sang about those days..
Put in:
COUNTRY CLUB – KINGSTON TRIO – CHILLY WINDS 2.35 Sorry the quality is a bit down..
But the Best I could find.

In my searches I found a Singer I had not heard as a solo singer before!! See what you think? Put in:
“Chilly Winds” – John Stewart – Rare 1973 single 3.25
Yes How did you like that??? I thought it was Lovely laid back singing and I loved that guitar.
YES a real nice version. Great Find for me:
John was a member of the Kingston Trio for 8 years before he left them to go solo singing. He did very well as a solo artist; Unfortunately he died in 2008.

And we should not forget another Great Song about Winds; that Ian Tilson wrote. Probably the VERY BEST song ever written about Winds. It is called FOUR STRONG WINDS.
There are lots of versions available. So many people sang it.
So difficult to choose just one.
I was tempted to have Ian himself sing it,
and then opted for this one: Put in
NEIL YOUNG – FOUR STRONG WINDS (1978) 4.24
What a Singer!!. What a Song?

Well here we are the end of another Rays Chat. There has been some Great Singing going on there: I hope I have got you listening to some Songs.. that maybe you have found something you had not heard before. And now until the next time Cheerio.
Get on with all those Christmas jobs.
Nice chatting to You
