Ray’s chat 28

Hi Folks
It’s RAYS CHAT TWENTY EIGHT

Before I start I want to say this to you:
If you Only Manage to watch and listen to ONE song..
PLEASE make it the last song AND THE BAND PLAYED WALTZING MATILDA. It is the MOST moving Song I have EVER heard!! You MUST Listen and Watch the Videos.
And Ladies YOU will need those Hankies.

Well: November IS ALMOST HERE; Murky days and Cold Nights.
And; Oh The Autumn leaves, They looks so pretty all red and gold till they fall. Then they become a soggy trap for the unwary
Time for a song. And there is one that Everyone must have heard by Nat King Cole, The Falling Leaves. Ok not exactly a Folk Song.. But I couldn’t find a Folk song about Autumn.
Put in NAT KING COLE AUTUMN LEAVES 2.42
There are lots to choose from.. please yourself.
Also Eva Cassidy sings it.. Maybe you prefer that?

Three things come to Mind every November:
HALLOWEEN First Just before November
And Trick and Treat!
Oh how that American thing got here?? Who knows?..
But the kids love it.

Then it’s BONFIRE NIGHT. Well THAT is BRITISH..
VERY British. A real part of Our History.
We celebrate it. In Memory Of The Failed GUNPOWDER PLOT.
Very important History lesson here:
In 1605 Guy Fawkes and his Men intended to Blow-Up The Houses of Parliament and with it, King James Second.
But it failed. Read all about it:
YES I have found Poems about BONFIRE NIGHT.
Put in. GUY FAWKES DAY POEMS
And you have got FOUR to choose from:
Of course, as kids, we all knew the poem Fifth of November.
lt’s there in it’s full form.. Yes read it it’s good.
Well there you are History Lesson over for today

But it has given us a real good reason to have fabulous Fireworks displays and huge Bonfires.
And we can always say it’s for the Kids!!

And that brings us to the third thing we always remember in November: REMEMBRANCE DAY. Poppy Day.
The time when we remember the brave ones who died so we could be FREE.
This was started after THE GREAT WAR of 1914-18 to remember all the Many that were killed or maimed.
They say More than a Million died then.
And then add all the others that have died fighting to keep US safe.
And this year we add to those the poor people who died in the Terrible Terrorist killings. And indeed Also: the terrible Tower Block Fires. Yes so many to remember.

And; So many of us DO STILL remember; and the Parades all over the Country are well attended.
Just look at this one. Note the length of the Parade!! WOW!! People do still care.
Put in.
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION YOUTH BAND BRENTWOOD REMEMBRANCE DAY 4.06

Yes: We Remember them: AND: To those poor guys in those 1914-18 Cold muddy trenches: It was Songs that were a VERY important part of keeping-up their morale,
Great War Songs; like It’s a Long Way to Tipperary.

I have found a guided tour by Gareth Malone talking about some of those songs. Put in: MIX – GARETH MALONE POPULAR WARTIME SONGS DURING WW1 2.10

And it was not only British Guys out there. There were Colonial Armies fighting in other places.
One battle that became very famous being the battle for Gallipoli when Australia and New Zealand sent an Army to Gallipoli to fight the Turks. And it was a disaster. 10,000 men were killed and over 19,000 were wounded and mutilated.
In my searching I have found a song I had not heard before.
It was written by Eric Bogle in 1924, He later revised and added the Videos in February 1971.
It was written about those Australian guys in Gallipoli, that went back home terribly mutilated.
John McDermott is My choice . There are lots of version to choose from: But this is just SO MOVING Superbly sung.
John McDermott; (One of the THREE Irish Tenors) is just so deeply sincere in his rendering.
