Ric Takes Centre Stage

Ric James feature night – 11th March

What a fine evening we enjoyed once again last night at our very last Thursday meeting! It was good to see a few old friends who have not been for a while – don’t leave it so long to the next time!!

We were treated to performances from Simeon, Charles and Rachel, Geoff, Barry and Ed, and Simon all controlled by some super smooth MCing from super smooth Simeon. We also welcomed back Tarmac and Mick. Mick played what, at first glance, resembled a corn flakes box but turned out to be another example of his fine craftsmanship with scrap wood. It sounded pretty good too! Mick’s unique humour has been missed at the club and it was great to hear him sing his classic take on “folking”!

We were also entertained by Dave who gave his own highly enjoyable take on radio 4’s I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue by performing Two Songs to the Tune of Another! Great stuff!!

We warmly welcomed Betty and Kath. Betty has recently moved down from South Yorkshire where she was a regular folk club performer and organiser. She charmed us all with a lovely song and an equally lovely personality.

But the main event was a feature spot from Ric who gave an assured performance as he swept through a range of songs in his warm and engaging style. And what a performance of Roots to finish with one hand flying up and down the full range of the fretboard and the other driving out the rhythm of the song. Great entertainment – well done Ric.

We meet again next Friday 18th and with St Patrick’s day falling in the week it must be time to bring out a few Irish songs.
