A Cracking Night and News of a Big Name Signing!

Performer’s Night – 18th March

What a great night we had once again on Friday. It was our highest attendance and longest performer’s list so far which can’t be bad! A big welcome to all of those who came for the first time – do come back! Sue entertained us with some very fine singing, Roy brought a touch of class and Neil performed “one of his own” in fine style. Alex sang for the first time and gave us two great songs from the Steeleye Span CD he previously won in the raffle!! A great voice and intricate guitar work were a winning combination. A special mention to Jacqui (love the hats!) and Andy and Graham who all made welcome returns and gave us a touch of Irish music for St Patrick’s day. Welcome too to Bob who will definitely be performing next time and to Alison and Nilesh who might yet be persuaded to give us a song one day!!

We are essentially a performer’s club and we always try to give everyone a spot but, as attendances continue to rise, it gets ever more difficult to manage the programme. If you are performing please try to get there for 8.00pm and secure your spot with the MC for that night.

I promised you a big name signing and John Kirkpatrick is one of the biggest. The BBC Radio 2 folk awards musician of the year 2010 will be our guest on 15th July. Definitely one to put in the diary.

Next up is a performer’s night on 1st April where, in celebration of April fool’s, we’re looking for some of those corny old comedy songs and maybe a joke or two.

The programme for the year is almost complete – just one more guest for October to be confirmed. I think it’s a great programme with the emphasis very firmly on performer’s nights but with a few features and a sprinkling of top class guests. Have a look at the dates page if you haven’t done so recently!
