No Direction lead the way!

Peformer’s Night – 16th March

We enjoyed yet another fine evening of entertainment at our most recent performer’s night last Friday. Simeon hosted the evening in his usual fine style and managed to develop a boy band theme as the evening progressed!

The first half featured spots from Simeon, John, Pete, Andy (there is now no doubt that he is much more than a whistle player after charming us again with his fine singing voice), and Diane. Diane was joined for one song by Sally and they performed a lovely version of Johnny was a shoemaker. More please!! As it was Gold Cup day at the Cheltenham festival, The Galway Farmer made its annual(ish!) appearance too. Simeon closed the first half with Last Thing On My Mind and took us back to the days when we used to end the evening with this song. Everyone sang and smiled and this set the tone for the second half.

But first … the raffle! After Des and Barry claimed the minor prizes Diane won the very lovely guitar strings and generously put them back (well, she doesn’t play guitar!). Julian then recovered his winning form and, after some dodgy dealing at the back of the room, the guitar strings went to Pete. But Diane’s generosity was soon to be rewarded when she won the evening’s star prize. Tension mounted as the spotty hanky was removed to reveal a (very) pink, furry poodle. Diane could hardly contain her delight but the poodle was spotted under Sally’s arm on the way out at the end of the evening!

The second half was great fun with lots of singing and smiling and feeling good. Simeon and John gave their debut performance as No Direction which involved grimacing, key changes and much discussion. Laura and Des kept everyone singing and we had a second helping of Diane and Andy. Barry and Ed – surely the ultimate Boy Band – gave their usual entertaining performance before No Direction returned to end the evening. Great fun!

Lucy Ward is up next on 30th March and remaining tickets can be reserved by email.
