Performer’s Night featuring Diane Kemp

Performer’s Night featuring Diane – 21st october

Well, what a fabulous night of entertainment we enjoyed at our latest meeting last night. Once again the room was buzzing and the quality of performers excellent.

Simeon kicked off followed by Matt – two great voices to start the evening. Natalie made her debut performance and, after a few deep breaths, sang beautifully. Andy attracted a few gasps of awe at the sight of his tenor recorder which sounded just lovely and John gave us one of his trademark entertaining performances with a little help from Linda on prompts! Marten continues to grow in stature as a performer at the club and he was followed by Ralph, another newcomer to the club. A great song and a fine tune (ably accompanied by Tommy and Nick) were followed by Simon who wrapped up an excellent first half in style.

The interval brought the raffle which reached new heights in excitement. The acoustic Strawbs lost out in the battle of CDs for the fifth time in a row. It will be back again next time and the questions on everyone’s lips are who will eventually choose it and in which year/century will it be chosen?! To the sound of drum rolls on all the tables and the well oiled machine that is Julian on the spotlight dimmer switch our very first “Charming Christmas Decoration” was revealed and amidst gasps of wonder from all around the room, Marten joyfully claimed the frost effect, colour changing Santa figure which will, I’m sure, take pride of place amongst his Christmas decorations this year. The fever pitched excitement of Charming Christmas Decorations will feature in our November and December meetings so please be aware if you are of a nervous disposition!

The music was soon going strong again with Simeon singing a song full of fun and Ric playing that lovely mandocello in fine style.

Diane then took centre stage with an extended spot crammed full of powerful songs delivered in a fine singing voice and with great style. Accompanied by Sam on a couple of songs but otherwise just singing in a pure and powerful voice this was a high quality and thoroughly enjoyable performance.

The entertainment continued with Mickey (who upheld that fine tradition of being in the toilet when he was called up for his spot!), Des, Tommy, Nick and Barry & Ed taking us well into extra time.

We ended the evening in the bar drawing breath after a brilliant night and celebrating Pete’s retirement with one last drink. Whew!!

Next up is a performer’s night on 4th November when the proceeds will go to the Super Friends Saturday Club and Geoff and Simon will invite you to contribute to this excellent local charity for children with learning difficulties. See you then!
