The Parrots Head Another Great Night of Entertainment

A very cold evening, pictures of snow on the news, Andy Murray on the telly playing for a place in the semi finals and a comfy sofa and warm fire beckoned. But what a good decision it turned out to be to head to the Red Lion where we enjoyed yet another fabulous night of music in our famed warm and friendly atmosphere!!

It was great to welcome, once again, some excellent new (to the club) performers. Steve charmed us with his lovely voice and beautifully crafted songs. It is hard to believe that this was his first public performance for 15 years – we look forward to the next! Reg sung two great songs and boy, did he mean that first one?! That was three fingers showing at the end wasn’t it?! Black Parrot Seaside came all the way from Coventry and provided brilliant entertainment in their four song “pastiche”. They kindly donated a CD which will appear in the raffle next time. They certainly got a thoroughly entertaining second half off to a terrific start.

It was also welcome back to Philip who has been to the club before but sung for the first time. Great singing and lovely songs! A big welcome back too to the excellent Bronagh whose fine fiddle playing adds so much to Barry and Ed. These three were hot and they left everyone feeling uplifted at the end of their set.

Add to all of that the usual energy and style of Andrew, John (I never thought I would actually enjoy the sound of a ukulele!), Ric and stylish MCing from Simeon and another memorable night was complete.

Oh … not forgetting … Barry was heard to say “Barbara will be pleased” as he triumphantly accepted “Around the Lake District” from our Great Tea Towels of the World series!!

Next up will be a performer’s night on 9th December where we will be raising money for the Super Friends Saturday Club – a fine local charity who provide social experiences for children with learning difficulties. More news about that night soon.

Also, don’t forget our Christmas party night on 23rd December featuring the Big Christmas Sing no less!! The perfect way to start the Christmas weekend.
