Performer’s Night – 2nd November

Good evening all

One of the things that I love about our club is that you never know quite what you are going to get until it actually happens. Tuesday night showed that really well. Simon MC’ed in his relaxed and laid back style and he set the mood which spread throughout the whole evening. We all ended up with a warm and relaxed feel inspired by the music and our famous good company. Simon B sang with fine style and we enjoyed the welcome return of John back from down under. Lovely finger style guitar from Alan, two more fine songs from Jamie and Andrew’s latest self penned songs (see his web site) took us through the first half all too soon. The second half highlight was Mick departing from his usual comic songs and delivering two powerful and moving protest songs of the sort that stop you in your tracks. Nice one Mick. Dave’s fine lead guitar and songs from Ric, Tarmac and Simeon finished us off in fine style. Another great night!

The raffle gets a mention once again because this week’s edition of Great Tea Towels of the World was, without doubt, the cheapest, nastiest, naffest specimen you are ever likely to see. Dave told us how he saw it on sale for one euro when he was on holiday in Cyprus. Dave, being a man with a sharp business brain and questionable moral standards, managed to beat the seller down to 84 cents meaning that, as Alan pointed out, the winning ticket cost considerably more than the tea towel!!

Andrew has put a couple more songs on his web site featuring Simon and the mouse (you had to be there!!) and my fumbled attempt at percussive style guitar (take pity on me Andrew and take it off!!). Check out http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1109626&content=music along with Andrew’s own site at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=28712&content=music .

Our next meeting is one not to be missed. Dan Walsh and Will Pound will wow us on 18th November. More details are on the web site. I haven’t got round to organising advance tickets so we’ll just have entry on the door. Let’s fill the room and make it one to remember.
